Reasons to implement USEF

Saves time and costs when implementing flexibility
The common assumption that ‘you get what you pay for’ truly does NOT apply to USEF. This may well be the only occasion where you are offered an open and free solution that can save you time and costs associated with implementing flexibility into your own smart energy project.

Developed via industry expert collaboration
USEF’s Reference Implementation and exemplary coding have been developed through collaboration of some of the greatest minds in the industry and a shared belief that an accelerated route to a connected future requires impartiality and a non-commercial, open-to-all approach.

It’s free!
The USEF Foundation offers a freely downloadable reference implementation of the framework specification which demonstrates its design feasibility. The implementation itself provides a starting point for third parties aiming to commercially exploit all or part of the framework, whether to deliver bespoke products, services or projects that can be easily integrated, and communicate, with the future smart energy system.

It’s already tailored for your needs
In addition to the reference implementation source code, USEF provides examples of different types of projects here to enable you to start from a point which best suits your needs.

It’s tested, up-to-date and available now!
The reference implementation is also used to test the framework as it develops, according to feedback from the USEF community. It has passed conformance testing and is publicly available under the Apache 2 license in the form of downloadable source code on Github: https://github.com/USEF-Foundation/ri.usef.energy

Organisation

USEF was founded by seven key players, active across the smart energy industry. Their goal: to accelerate the establishment of an integrated smart energy system which benefits all stakeholders, from energy companies to consumers. The foundation is no longer active, yet USEF’s work is still available for referencing.
